A healthy liver has a natural cleanse mechanism in place. The natural cleanse mechanism allows the liver to efficiently eliminate liver toxins and keep itself free of liver stones.
The liver is one of the largest organs in the body, and is reddish in color. It sits on the upper right side of the abdomen just below the diaphragm. A healthy liver can weigh up to three pounds.

2. Metabolizes or processes digested food, alcohol, drugs and other chemicals and toxins ingested along with the food that we eat.
a) Processes nutrients so that it can be used by the body:
The liver converts excess glucose to glycogen that is stored in the liver. Whenever our body requires energy, the glycogen is converted back into glucose which breaks down to release energy where needed.
The liver converts excess amino acids from proteins into urea which can be excreted through the urine.
b) Converts the following liver toxins into less toxic substances:
3. Produces cholesterol. Only 20 percent of cholesterol is taken in with food. The rest of the cholesterol is made in the liver. Cholesterol is important as it is used to make cell membranes, Vitamin D, hormones in the body and bile.
